With the pandemic just behind us, many services have taken the shopping experience online for a safer experience for consumers. In 2021, Shopify, Square Space, and other publicly traded ecommerce-based companies saw their shares skyrocket. Being online isn’t just an extension of a business anymore – it’s essential for the changing world.

Many industries have already made the switch. One of the more peculiar ones is interior design. This industry – typically dominated by boutique-style providers, has seen dramatic growth in 2020-2021. Companies such as Spencil and Modsy are pioneering the innovation and changes within the space. However, within the last year, more startups are entering the space. Here’s a list of the top companies shaping interior design.

Spencil

Spencil was founded in 2021 as an online interior design platform for businesses looking to reinvent themselves after the Pandemic. Spencil, to date, hasn’t received any funding. However, despite being a new player on the scene, the startup has gained momentum, picking up significant franchises and retailers across the U.S as customers. Currently, Spencil is still in Beta and not open to the public. To become a customer, you need to contact them privately.

Modsy

Modsy, was founded in 2015 as an online interior design service for anyone looking to enhance their apartment or home. The service was widely well-received and has received $72M in funding. Modsy caters its platform to the general public focusing primarily on B2C.

It’s a unique approach that’s convenient, seamless, and affordable for the end consumer. So far, Space Joy has raised $3M in funding.

Collov

Collov is one of the newest companies on the list. Having completed its undisclosed seed round funding in 2021, the startup has continued to grow its service offering. Currently, their model is very similar to the other competitors, with the main difference being competitively priced. Collov offers one of the most affordable pricing. Their Kickstar plan starts at $79 and can be reduced to $49 with frequently found promotions.

Havenly

Havenly is one of the oldest companies on this list, founded in 2013. The company was started by two sisters Lee Mayer and Emily Motayed. Frustrated with the high cost of interior designers, they decided to embark on a journey to create Havenly. Havenly has received $85.8M in funding and is one of the most widely recognized names in the industry. Their prices are also competitive and feature a concierge-level service to help curate and order desired furniture.

Decorist

“Decorist is an online interior design service that matches you with a friendly designer to work with you to pull your room together in your style and budget.

Decorist was founded in 2014 by Gretchen Hanson. Despite being nearly as senior as Havenly and only a year older than Modsy, Decorist only received a modest $4.5M funding. The company is primarily self-funded and has remained competitive in the space. However, Decorist’s prices are in the higher range and likely tend to a more specialized demographic.
